Love of clay began when Sonia Welmans realized that her love for creating art outweighed her drive for corporate success.

Sonia Welmans was born in Vanderbijlpark (Gauteng, South Africa) on 19 May 1963 as the youngest daughter of two. Ever since childhood, she liked to draw and started experimenting with oil and watercolours later on. She has sold many paintings over the years. After years it was time for a challenge and there her love for pottery and ceramics took her on a whole new journey.

Unlike many of her contemporaries, Sonia is primarily self-taught and has her own approach to - and definition of - art. She loves teaching and sharing her knowledge with her students.
